Candeo

From the press kit:

John Dale is dying. Nathan, his youngest, is beside his bed. John gives him a box that contains a precious family heirloom - an ancient locket - as a sort of birthright. But the box is empty. Immediately John knows Allen, his oldest, has stolen the locket. He sends Nathan after him - there is more to the locket than what meets the eye, and it has to be returned. So off goes Nathan; his tamer nature pitted against that of his dangerous brother’s.

Along the way Nathan receives help from a few memorable characters. Sam is hired by John to help navigate the journey but seems given to wild and incoherent babbling, making Nathan question his integrity. A more welcome guest is Julie, a pretty girl who may or may not know the history behind the locket, but who sure knows how to lay a good beating on anybody who so much as breathes wrong on Nathan. And finally a criminal with the unlikely name Elioanai Jones haphazardly joins the gang. Sam and Julie hate him, but he acts as the most peculiar of moral guides to Nathan.

Meanwhile Allen grows more and more conflicted as he travels around trying to sell the locket. His best friend Tom and girlfriend Haley are with him, and they have differing views of what Allen should do. Allen feels he is in a downward spiral; he is ashamed that he stole from his father, but angry because he felt less loved than Nathan. And the locket, Allen swears, is talking to him. Just what is inside that locket? It should be easy enough to open and find out…

This whirlwind of a story is given a distinct style and charm by director Kyle Cowgill and DP Devin Robinson. Jeremy Hoffman and Brandon Robinson give star turns as Nathan and Allen respectively. The laughs are plentiful and the action is hard, making “Candeo” not only an intelligent meditation on family, but an enthralling piece of entertainment as well.
